I tore my frenulum, what now?

A few days ago I torn my frenulum during intercourse. At first there was a very sharp pain and when I pulled out I saw a huge amount of blood. The pain quickly subsided but I rushed to the health center (I am a college student) and had it examined. The doctor there wrapped my penis in gauze and gave me an antibacterial to prevent infection. They also gave me a referral for a urologist who I have an appointment with in a few days. I have read online about a frenuplasty where they lengthen the frenulum to reduce tension, but im pretty sure at this point I am going to have to have my frenulum removed (frenectomy) because it completely tore in half. Can this be performed without a circumcision? How painful is this operation and how long will it take to heal before I can have sex again? Also will there be any long term effects, will sex not feel as good in the future?
